We have still not worked up the nerve for the 72-ounce steak challenge at the Big Texan. We have worked up the nerve to drive I-40 and I-27, sit with a Panhandle buyer, and talk wall thickness. Amarillo is warm hearted West Texas with a construction habit and a canyon in the backyard.

Those interstates are how cattle, freight, and families cross the Plains. They are also permanently under construction. Safety and construction components, markers, housings, field products, are a better souvenir than another year of complaining about the shut down lanes.

Project Matador sits outside Amarillo

Fermi America’s Project Matador is planned in Carson County, about a dozen miles northeast of Amarillo. It is being sold as one of the largest AI and energy campuses ever proposed. If even a fraction of that build lands, the Panhandle will need construction products, electrical and cooling hardware housings, and industrial plastics from shops that already speak Texas energy.
